RE: Trying to find Bunk Bed 5th Wheel with lots of Counter Space

I just happened to look at the Open Range website the other day. I was surprised to see they carry a couple of 2 bedroom 1 1/2 bath models. We've only looked at the exterior never been inside one of them.
Website
If you look at their floorplans, there isn't a lot of counter space in them. We saw them at the Hershey RV show and we didn't like two things about them. First, they use two different colors of wood throught the rig and second, they have a vessel sink in the bathroom. I don't like a sink that sits on top of the counter top. It looks like a salad bowl. For these reasons, Open Range wouldn't work for us, but different strokes for different folks, right?

RE: Help us pick a bunkhouse 5'er

I think that this is a very difficult question to answer. A lot depends on your budget, your tow vehicle, and your personal preferences. I think you need to search for a unit with bunks that fits those three criteria. That said, we have a 2007 Silverback with quad bunks, 4 slides. We were involved in an accident on the NJ Turnpike at the end of August (a tractor trailer failed to stop and hit a Durango and pushed him into us) and the insurance company has totaled our fiver. We are in the process of settling with the insurance company. We have on order a 2009 Cardinal (I forget the model number) with five slides and bunks. If it wasn't for the fact that we're well insured (thank goodness!) and we owe a lot less on our fiver than what it's worth (again, thank goodness!), there would be no way we could afford this trailer. Also, we tow with an F450 and GVW is a non-issue for us. As for the floorplan, it totally fits our needs. Besides the bunks, it has a side hall bathroom without which any floorplan would be a deal breaker for us. So, my advice to the OP is to narrow down the criteria and shop, shop, shop!!!!

RE: rvdirect

We are in the process of purchasing our second rig from Albany RV. We bought a TT from them almost 6 years ago and have had 2 other rigs inbetween that we did not purchase from them. We are not hesitating to purchase from them again because we feel that they have dealt openly and fairly with us. There is one particular salesperson there that we will not deal with but other than that, we have no qualms about them. We do not need to worry about their service department because my DH is in the RV repair business and he will take care of any issues we may have.

RE: ocean lakes campground myrtle beach

We were there in late August for the first time in the K section. It was close enough to the entertainment center for easy walking, as well as close enough to the beach to walk, IMHO. However, our site in that section was not big enough for our 39 foot fifth wheel and although it was not crowded during the week at all, they didn't have a larger site available for the entire week we were there (it was the week ending with Labor Day weekend). My DH had to put the RV in the site on an angle in order to accomodate it and in the process, the tree on the site put holes in our roof. My DH is now fighting with their insurance company to get them to cover the damage. We did walk around the campground during the week and wrote down the site numbers of those that would be big enough to accomodate us the next time we go there.

By the way, this is our old Class C from last year. We'll have our 5er this time around.
1. Yes
2. Holiday park Campground in MD
3. Saturday morning
4. My DH, kids, and I all like different drivers but we all root for each other's drivers and boo at pretty much the same drivers, too!
We root for Junior, Bobby Labonte, Mark Martin, Kyle Petty, Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards.

RE: Myrtle Beach Restaurants

My head is swimming - so many places, too little time (and money!). I want to thank all of you for your replies and wonderful suggestions. My family already knows that we're going on a limited budget so we need to choose wisely. Most likely our dining out choices will be limited to lunch since lunch prices tend to be cheaper. I'm looking forward to this trip like you can't believe!

RE: Myrtle Beach Restaurants

Thanks to all who have replied thus far! If you have any more suggestions, please feel free. I'm now looking at the restaurants that have been recommended thus far to see if they have websites where I can look at menus, and also to see if there are discount coupons available for them.

Myrtle Beach Restaurants

My DH, DD (17 years old), DS (12 years old and in a MAJOR growth spurt!)and I are going to Myrtle Beach later in the month. We are staying at Ocean Lakes based on the advice of friends and this forum. I am interested in in information about restaurants in the area that won't cost us a fortune. We will most likely go out to eat several times over the course of the week we will be there and I can't afford to spend $100.00 per meal for the four of us. In addition, the restaurant would have to offer a variety of selections because although the kids and I love seafood, the DH is allergic. I would also like to avoid the chain restaurants like the Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood (been there, done that). Any suggestions?

RE: camping near Indianopolis

How far is Cedar Ridge camping resort from IUPUI? If that's where my daughter winds up going to college, I'd be interested in checking that place out.

We stayed at the KOA near Indianapolis in March when we brought our DD to a college Open House visit at IUPUI. Nice enough campground, would stay there again.

RE: New Premium Sites at Fort Wilderness ?

I subscribe to the mousesavers.com newsletter and I received information last week that there were "rumors" that Disney ticket prices were going up. We're going to Disney at Christmas time this year so I bought my tickets online last week as a "just in case." Now I'm glad that I did!

RE: Cancel trip for toe injury/fracture?

My 12 year old DS sprained his wrist at soccer camp this past Tuesday. He was in the goal when one of the counselors (college aged boy) kicked the ball and my DS put his arms up to block it and the force of the ball bent my DS's wrist backward (yes, he also blocked the goal ;) He was back at camp the next day. He was the coach's assistant, helped to ref, and coached other kids in the goal. He took the splint off to take a quick dip in the pool and then would come out shortly after that. There was no way he was going to stay home and sit on the couch watching TV. He still had a great time. As for your son't toe, I broke a toe about 7 years ago. When we went on vacation, I taped it to the next toe and wore water shoes when I went swimming and when we went to a water park.

RE: Mid Summer Rally, July 25, 26 at Camp Waubeeka Copake, NY

Steve, I'm sure the campground that you're talking about is lovely. However, we prefer campgrounds with full hook ups and amenities. If dry camping is what someone else chooses to do, more power to them, but when we get to go away for the weekend and the craziness of our day-to-day life, we don't want to "rough" it. My idea of "roughing" it is no cable or dishwasher,LOL! That's why we own the camper that we do and camp in the types of campgrounds that we do. So if the rally is held at Indian River, we most likely will, respectfully, choose not to attend.

RE: Mid Summer Rally, July 25, 26 at Camp Waubeeka Copake, NY

I know that some people had difficulty attending this past year's Spring rally because of the late May date. My suggestion is to go back to the original time frame of having it in early May. If you could stay away from Mother's Day weekend, that would be better, I think.
I would want to make sure that we would have exclusive rights to that already existing group fire pit and to the pavillion if we have to pay for their use.

wondering do we do blenders or martinis??
Blenders. Rich and I have one and we can be in charge of the non-alcoholic drinks for those of us who don't drink by choice or for the under-21 crowd (like our kids!)
